Clean Water For Marine Life: Our Efforts and Collaborations

At Faved By Samanthi jewellery, we are deeply concerned about the deteriorating health of our marine waters. The urgency of addressing pollution, which knows no borders, has prompted us to take action. In response, we have created a dedicated collection called the Ripple, aimed at raising awareness about the positive efforts made by organisations tackling this critical issue. Additionally, 20% of the proceeds from this collection will be donated to ocean recovery organisations that are advocates in the field. As an online business, we prioritise monitoring our carbon footprint. Operating online allows us to produce items based strictly on customer orders, minimising excess inventory. This approach not only reduces waste but also eliminates retail store commissions, enabling us to allocate a larger share of our profits to meaningful causes, particularly those advocating for ocean recovery such as " Ocean Recovery Alliance" HK founded by Doug Woodring.

"Ocean Recovery Alliance is an NGO based in Hong Kong and California, focused on creating innovative solutions and collaborations to improve the health of the ocean. It creates networks of organisations, entrepreneurs and innovators, particularly related to plastic sustainability and circularity for a wide variety of stakeholder groups, from companies, multi-lateral institutions, governments, villages and youth.  It is dedicated to broad and new thought leadership, to help create engaged and active dialogue where gaps often occur due to between entities that often do not have a history of working with one another, both on plastic pollution issues, and ocean governance. The group creates purposefully designed activities to educate, build awareness and provide solutions which inspire positive societal change at the community, national and international levels.

Ocean Recovery Alliance is one of the first NGOs in the world have worked with both UNEP and the World Bank on plastic pollution and ocean issues, and is the founder of the Plasticity Forum, first launched at the Rio+20 Earth Summit, and has since been held in 13 cities around the world. 

The group’s main programs today include the Harvest Plastic in both Cambodia and Lombok, Indonesia, which focuses on societal change within village communities for the focused collection of plastic from households. They also have run the Water Falling and Water Rising Festivals in Cambodia for five years, which take place twice a year with the rise/fall of the waters in the Tonle Sap Lake.  The latest program which is now in its second year, is the Inland Ocean Festival on the Tonle Sap, Cambodia’s “Inland Ocean,” is being develop as an eco-tourism event for the country, with awareness building for plastic pollution, water and ecosystem protection
